1

What types of manufacturing problems does Left Hand Engineering help solve?

We focus on projects that can make a meaningful impact on your business—especially the projects you know need to get done but don’t have the time or internal resources to tackle.

Our work commonly includes:

  • Manufacturing footprint consolidation

  • Material flow optimization

  • Plant layouts and facility planning

  • New Product Introduction (NPI)

  • Equipment sourcing and placement

  • Manufacturing process improvement

  • Capital equipment and automation evaluation

If it’s a project that could improve your operation but keeps getting pushed down the list, we can help move it forward.

2

What size manufacturers do you typically work with?

We’ve worked with manufacturers ranging from $5 million to more than $300 million in annual revenue.

Our target niche is growing manufacturers in the $10–$30 million range—companies that are growing, changing, and need additional engineering capacity to keep moving forward.

3

What if we know something isn’t working, but we don’t know what the solution is?

Those are some of our favorite projects.

Sometimes the first step isn’t knowing the answer—it’s taking the time to understand the problem. We can come onsite, observe your operation, talk with your team, and help bring clarity to what’s really happening.

From there, we work together to identify root causes, define the opportunity, and determine the best path forward.

4

Can you help with projects our internal engineering team doesn’t have time to tackle?

Absolutely.

We work alongside internal engineering and manufacturing teams to provide additional capacity and expertise when they need it. We intentionally stay outside of the day-to-day production demands so we can focus on projects that move the business forward.

Our goal isn’t to replace your team. It’s to support, strengthen, and train them along the way.

5

Do you just design solutions, or can you help implement them, too?

We do both.

We don’t believe in handing over a set of plans and walking away. We want to be in the shop, working alongside your team to put the solution into practice.

Implementation is where good ideas become real improvements—and we take pride in being there for that part of the process.

6

Can you help us evaluate equipment or automation before we make a capital investment?

Absolutely. We take a holistic approach to capital investment decisions.

We start by understanding where the business is headed and what leadership is trying to accomplish. Then we evaluate the technical requirements, run the economics, and consider how the investment will affect current production.

The goal isn’t simply to find equipment that works. It’s to make sure the investment makes sense for the business.

7

Do you work onsite with our operators and manufacturing team?

Yes. In fact, this is our preferred way to work.

We believe the people running an area every day should have a voice in how it is designed and improved. We like to work shoulder-to-shoulder with operators and manufacturing teams to understand how work actually gets done.

Their input is critical to creating solutions that work in the real world—and building the buy-in needed to make those solutions stick.

8

How is Left Hand Engineering different from a traditional engineering consulting firm?

Our tagline, Left Hand. Right Mind., captures how we approach our work.

We combine creativity and outside-the-box thinking with the fundamentals and first principles of engineering.

We aren’t interested in engineering for engineering’s sake. We look at the whole problem, challenge assumptions, and develop practical solutions that make sense for the people, processes, and business behind the operation.

9

Can we start with a small assessment before committing to a larger project?

Absolutely. In fact, we encourage it.

We believe the best client relationships are built over time. Starting with a focused assessment allows us to understand your operation, demonstrate how we work, and build trust before taking on larger initiatives.

As that relationship grows, we can work in parallel with your leadership and internal team to support the broader goals of the business.

10

How much does a typical project cost?

$5,000–$10,000.

A typical project engagement is around $30,000, although project costs vary based on the scope and size of the business.

We’ll define the scope and investment with you upfront so you know what to expect.

11

How long does a typical project take?

Project timelines depend on the scope and complexity of the work.

  • Smaller projects: typically 1–3 months

  • Larger projects: typically 6–12 months

We’ll establish a clear scope, timeline, and set of deliverables at the beginning of each engagement.

12
